A prospective case-control study on risk factors for SUDEP
Clinical Case, 67 - 68Tag this article
Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is a rare complication of epilepsy. Risk factors, circumstances and mechanisms of SUDEP are still illdefined. The SUDEP Study Group of the Italian League against epilepsy (LICE) has five major aims: 1. To perform a case-control study of risk factors of SUDEP within an international collaboration (the EpiNet Project); 2. To identify SUDEP cases in a pathological study of sudden cardiac death; 3. Validation of a remote acoustic device to ascertain nocturnal seizures; 4. To study genetic factors associated with SUDEP susceptibility; 5. To perform a consensus conference on the diagnosis and prevention of SUDEP.
